⛏️ Horizon Europe - EU-Canada cooperation on critical raw materials
HaDEA has highlighted two Horizon Europe projects with Canadian participation that are developing more sustainable and efficient approaches to critical raw materials exploration, extraction and processing.
The BOREAS and BLOOM projects combine autonomous robotics, digital twins, advanced mineral analysis and AI-driven operations to improve efficiency, traceability and resilience across strategic raw-material supply chains.

🌊 OceanEye - At least €211M pledged for global ocean observation
The EU and Canada launched the OceanEye International Alliance for the Global Ocean Observing System and secured at least €211 million in funding commitments.
The initiative will strengthen ocean data, observing technologies and international research cooperation supporting safer navigation, better weather and climate forecasting, coastal protection and the sustainable blue economy.

🏥 EU4Health - New Joint Scientific Consultation window opens
The European Commission has opened the fourth 2026 request period for Joint Scientific Consultations (JSCs) under the EU Health Technology Assessment framework.
Applications are open from 23 September to 21 October 2026 for eligible medicinal products and medical devices, helping developers plan clinical studies ahead of future Joint Clinical Assessments.

⚓ Horizon Europe - Greener European ports move from pilots to scale
The EU-funded MAGPIE and PIONEERS projects have concluded five years of demonstrations testing clean energy, alternative fuels, electrification, digitalisation and new port infrastructure.
Together, the projects delivered 33 demonstrations and practical tools for replication that can help ports across Europe move successful innovations from pilots to larger-scale deployment.

🎣 EMFAF - Commission proposes simpler access to fisheries funding
The European Commission has proposed a targeted amendment to the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) to simplify access to support for fishers and aquaculture producers.
The proposal would make it easier to test new technologies, accelerate the fleet’s energy transition, support young and small-scale fishers and increase funding flexibility while strengthening environmental safeguards.
