Objective of the call
The objective of this call is to support farmers in transitioning towards diversified cropping systems that improve profitability, resilience, sustainability, and biodiversity conservation. The call aims to strengthen local value chains, promote innovative farming solutions, and increase awareness of the benefits of crop diversification.
Scope of activities
Projects should develop, test, and demonstrate innovative solutions, business models, and cooperation models supporting crop diversification and resilient farming systems. Activities should assess the economic, social, and environmental impacts of proposed innovations, including climate mitigation and biodiversity restoration potential. Proposals should also define exploitation pathways covering market research, regulatory approvals, licensing, and intellectual property management to accelerate market uptake. Projects must provide practical support and dissemination activities for farmers, including audiovisual and creative communication materials. Activities should involve different farming systems, including organic farming, and apply a multi-actor approach.

- Innovative SMEs, startups and enterprises aiming to scale and strengthen competitiveness
- Public-sector organisations driving transformation and societal impact
- Research and academic institutions commercialising knowledge
- Non-profit organisations delivering purpose-driven innovation
- Participation is limited to legal entities established in Member States, Iceland and Norway, associated countries, OECD countries and MERCOSUR countries. (described in General Annex A, General Annex B, General Annex C)
- Minimum 3 independent partners from 3 eligible countries
Specific consortium we are looking for:
Consortia should include farmers, agricultural SMEs, technology developers, researchers, consumer organisations, advisors, and value chain actors. Participation of SMEs developing and testing innovative solutions is strongly encouraged, including through targeted calls and financial support to third parties. Projects should involve actors from both conventional and organic farming systems.
Eligible costs
Eligible costs will take the form of a lump sum contribution under the Horizon Europe Lump Sum Model Grant Agreement. Activities may include:
- Research and development of advanced photonic devices and circuits
- Integration of novel materials and architectures
- Prototype fabrication and testing
- System-level validation in representative application domains
- Performance benchmarking and optimisation
- Dissemination and exploitation activities
