€350 million proposed to support Green Deal innovators

A proposed update to the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pilot work programme, under Horizon 2020 includes €350 million ‘green deal’ calls for game-changing, market-creating innovation contributing to the goals of The European Green Deal and the UN’’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On 3 March 2020, the European Commission published the draft work programme for the €350 million ‘green deal’ call under Horizon 2020. The call is part of the updated European Innovation Council (EIC) Pilot work programme and aimes at supporting market-creating innovation which contribute to the goals of The European Green Deal.

The main element will be a €300 million one-off call under the EIC Accelerator to support start-ups and SMEs to develop and scale breakthrough innovations that address at least one of the eight goals of The European Green Deal. The updated work programme also provides new opportunities for start-ups and SMEs with women CEOs (or equivalent positions) under the EIC Accelerator. The draft work programme is published before the adoption to provide potential participants with proposed updates. Only the adopted work programme expected in March 2020 will have legal value.
